The Hire Big Ten Plus Consortium offers three diversity events during the academic year which expose students from our institutions to a wide range of diverse career options. Students from across the midwest travel to Chicago for a full day of career exploration in the fields of Business, Law and Communications. Students from Big Ten Universities, the University of Chicago, DePaul University and the University of Notre Dame travel to the Chicagoland area to participate in 2 site visits and 3 large scale networking events in Chicago’s vibrant professional district. The day begins with a corporate sponsored opening ceremony including a light breakfast and a guest speaker. Following the opening event students, in groups of 25-30, attend their first site visit. The entire group reconvenes for a corporate sponsored networking lunch. Students travel to another afternoon site visit and the day concludes with a closing reception, also corporate sponsored.

Diversity in Business 2009 is a business focused, all day career exploration
program used to introduce 2nd, 3rd and 4th year undergraduate students to the financial services, consulting and other general business industries. Students from Big Ten Universities, the University of Chicago, DePaul University and the University of Notre Dame travel to the Chicagoland area to participate in 2 site visits and 3 large scale networking events in Downtown Chicago. This program aims to connect its’ participants with a diverse group of employers who have translated their experiences and education into careers in business. This program is also designed to provide a forum for students and employers to share some of the experiences and challenges that they have faced as diverse individuals.

HOW YOU CAN HELP!
(1) Event Sponsor: We are looking for employers to sponsor the closing
networking reception at our venue (is. hotel, banquet hall). This sponsorship can include guest speakers, a panel of representatives from your firm, structured networking exercises, etc. depending on the level. At the closing reception, you will have exclusive access to all 150-200 participants. The purpose of the reception is to encourage conversation and to teach students about diversity within a professional setting.

(2)Site Visit Host: We are also looking for companies that would be interested in being a part of this educational diversity program, ideally in the form of hosting a group of 20 - 30 students for about 1.5 hours in the morning (10:30am-12pm) and/or afternoon (2:30pm-4pm). You may design the 1.5 hour hosting period however you would like, i.e. giving them a tour of your facility, having a panel discussion and/or a presentation on the type of work that your company provides, resume reviews, etc. This is also a good time to discuss available internship opportunities within your firm.

(3)Not located in Downtown Chicago?: If you would like to participate, but you are not located in Downtown Chicago to host a site visit we have other ways for you to participate in this program! You can host a workshop at our venue for a group of 30-35 students and interact as you would if they were at your headquarters or as a sponsor speak briefly and hand out materials to our entire group; please contact Stacey Pitts, spitts@uchicago.edu for more information!
As this program continues to grow, it is our hope that we can expand consortium initiatives to include more diversity programming more often throughout the year. There is no limit nor is there a minimum contribution.
