The Hire Big Ten Plus Consortium offers three diversity events during the academic year which expose students from our institutions to a wide range of diverse career options. Students from across the midwest travel to Chicago for a full day of career exploration in the fields of Business, Law and Communications.
Students from Big Ten Universities, the University of Chicago, DePaul University and the University of Notre Dame travel to the Chicagoland area to participate in 2 site visits and 3 large scale networking events in Chicago’s vibrant professional district. The day begins with a corporate sponsored opening ceremony including a light breakfast and a guest speaker. Following the opening event students, in groups of 25-30, attend their first site visit. The entire group reconvenes for a corporate sponsored networking lunch. Students travel to another afternoon site visit and the day concludes with a closing reception, also corporate sponsored.

The Diversity in Communications event assists students interested in pursing a career in advertising, journalism and/or public relations.
This year’s Diversity in Communications event will take place on Friday,
April 9, 2010. The entire event is from 8am-1pm. Depending on your organization’s involvement with the program, you will have a group of students for a designated period of time, either 9:30am-10:30am and/or 11:15am-12:15pm. There is also an opportunity for organizations to sponsor the Diversity in Communications networking lunch from 1:00pm-2:00pm.
Who participates in Diversity in Communications?
Ethnically diverse students, LGBTQ students, and first-generation college students are just some of the students who take advantage of this innovative program. Because the term “diversity” is defined in many different ways, we encourage students who
self-identify as being diverse to apply. All participants have an interest in the communications industry and are looking to pursue internships, professional work or graduate school in this field.

Diversity in Business 2009 is a business focused, all day career exploration
program used to introduce 2nd, 3rd and 4th year undergraduate students to the financial services, consulting and other general business industries. Students from Big Ten Universities, the University of Chicago, DePaul University and the University of Notre Dame travel to the Chicagoland area to participate in 2 site visits and 3 large scale networking events in Downtown Chicago. This program aims to connect its’ participants with a diverse group of employers who have translated their experiences and education into careers in business. This program is also designed to provide a forum for students and employers to share some of the experiences and challenges that they have faced as diverse individuals.
